Prime Inspector Barnaby Beaumont's no-deaths streak was broken with a midnight message. Dragging himself out into the cold night, he is joined by his new Inspector, Lavina Hoadley at one of the wealthiest houses in the city, where the body of renowned illuminator Marcellus Overton confronts them. With everyone lying and unpatented devices confusing the issue, Beaumont is forced to accept help from the suspect Ancilla Walstrand. But will she help or hinder the investigation? The only thing Beaumont knows is he definitely needs to make time for lunch.
